Men’s Health

Men's HealthWhat is male pain syndrome?

Male pain syndrome is defined as non-infectious testicular, prostate, or penile pain. This dysfunction often surfaces following an injury or prolonged sitting in poor posture. As a result, an imbalance of the pelvis is formed. For example, a patient is prone to injury after stepping off of a curb, falling down, or sitting in poor posture for a prolonged period of time. When one side of the pelvis shifts, male pain can result.

What causes male pain?

The testicular, prostate, and/or penile pain is referred pain that stems from the pull of fascia, which runs from the stomach area down and around the testicle, penis, or pelvic floor. Fascia is defined as the elastic component that surrounds all muscles and organs throughout the body. Functionally, fascia surrounds and infuses every structure within the body, both supporting and protecting it. It also creates separation between blood vessels, organs, bones, and muscles as well as the space in which blood vessels, nerves, and fluids must pass. As a bi-product of trauma, fascia organizes along the lines of tension imposed and can produce pain in adjacent areas of the body.

How is it treated?

Countless men suffer from male pain syndrome. Their symptoms are often eased with the use of anti-imflammatories and muscle relaxants. However, this does not eliminate the problem but offers temporary relief. Over the past seven years, Summit Physical Therapy has successfully treated this dysfunction.
